About Us...

Tony Williams set up the original ‘Motor Body Repairs’ in the early 1980s and quickly established a reputation for good quality bodywork repairs and paintwork – at a fair price. Tony has always been very hands-on and personally supervised work, no matter whether work on a classic car, an accident repair to a modern vehicle or a job on a light commercial vehicle. RetroMarques Ltd, a local classic car specialist owned by Mark Knight, had known Tony for many years and were delighted to be offered the opportunity to merge the 2 businesses. Tony was already carrying out the RetroMarques classic car body and paintwork, so this step was both logical and a perfect fit. The merger took place in 2013 and, with such a strong, local reputation, RetroMarques is pleased to retain the Tony Williams name for the bodyshop part of the business. The core team, Scott, the manager, Mark the painter, Larry and Martin in strip, prep and finishing and our senior panel-beater, Terry, have between them close to 100 years of experience in the field – a small, but highly specialised workforce.

Located in Malvern, the bodyshop serves the public, trade and local organisations across the Three Counties area of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, offering a range of services from small dent removal to a complex insurance repair and from machine paintwork polishing through to a full bodywork restoration and protective anti-corrosion treatment.

Many customers return time and again, confident that a quality job at a fair price is what the Tony Williams Bodyshop offers and above all else, a 'traditional, trusted service' – the RetroMarques motto. We look forward to seeing you, please enquire or call by, we will be pleased to meet you and to show you work in progress.

Bodywork...

Bodywork repairs are everyday business for the bodyshop with a wide range of accident repairs routinely carried out even where extensive tooling and a hydraulic lift is required. Usually the damaged or rotten area is cut out and then a repair panel is fitted in. Quite often, especially for classic cars, a repair panel is not available or we deem it to be of a sub-standard quality so we will fabricate our own repair panel to fit and then weld it in to place and profile.

Welding, brazing and soldering are all skills we offer, both on site and on occasion utilising highly-skilled local specialists.

Modern cars are increasingly utilising plastics in their construction and repairs to bumpers and other plastic components is work we are regularly carrying out, so too repairs and paintwork to glass-fibre panels or even whole body tubs e.g. a replica Cobra bodyshell.

Lastly, ‘prevention is better (and cheaper!) than cure’ and so we are pleased to offer an anti-corrosion coating application service (waxoyling). For a few hundred pounds, the life of a classic (or modern) vehicle can be extended by many years.

Customer Comment from Kay: "Thanks very much for getting the tailgate sorting out organised - they have done a fantastic job!"

Paintwork...

Classic & Modern Paint

Different cars – and especially ages of cars – demand different paint technologies. More modern vehicles utilise latest technology water-based paints with a lacquer finish whereas most classic cars will have ‘2-pack’ paint applied to them. We carry a significant number of paint codes and have wide-ranging reference material so that we can trace the original colour and then source it from a specialist paint supplier. This ensures an accurate, original colour and, for repairs to existing paintwork, we will hand-tint paint in order to ensure a highly accurate colour match to the existing paintwork.

Paintwork Finishing

Machine polishing with a variety of cutting and polishing compounds is routine business in the bodyshop. Putting a car through a machine polish can transform ‘tired’ paintwork or indeed improve an earlier, poorer quality respray. The cutting and polishing process removes oxidisation, blemishes, scratches and other defects putting a high-gloss finish back into the car! To complete a top-quality finish to the car, you may wish to have a full, professional valet carried out and we also re-colour and renovate soft-tops and tonneau covers.

Customer Comment: 'C and I are thrilled with the Jaguar, and will definitely bring her back for the other work as discussed with you today’, Jenny'

Classic Cars...

We hope you will already have noticed that the bodyshop is owned and operated by RetroMarques Ltd. We are first and foremost classic car specialists, indeed Rob and Mark, the 2 directors, are owner-enthusiasts so caring for your classic car is at the very heart of the business.

We want to take care of your pride and joy – it may be a new acquisition or have been in the family for generations, perhaps an important car with special history or one of just a few produced. No matter, corrosion rectification, accident repairs – both through an insurance claim or privately paid for – and high-quality paintwork and finishing are all services on offer.

Matching an existing paint colour can be challenging on a classic car but we have an excellent range of reference material which will normally produce the original paint name and code and a good source of classic paint colours to match. Where a smaller repair is being carried out we will spray a test card and then hand-tint the paint to match the existing paintwork so as to ensure a highly accurate colour match. We will always aim to give you some paint for touching-up at a later date too.

More widely, we can dip or blast panels and wheels and then paint or powder-coat to the desired colour and finish. Chrome-work can also be renovated and repaired.

We consider that repairing and painting classic cars is us playing a part in preserving our motoring heritage – it is important to us.

Insurance Work...

Recent legislative changes mean that you have a right to choose where your car is repaired – your insurer cannot dictate where the car should be repaired.

We work closely with a number of the car insurers and their assessment engineers so that a quality repair can be carried out without leaving you with a sub-standard finish. Wherever possible, original manufacturer parts are used and we can repair or replace metals, plastics, trim and mechanical items.

We aim to provide a hassle-free insurance repair which goes forward quickly and inconveniences you to the absolute minimum. We have a courtesy car available and will gladly drop you at a local address or nearby railway station.

Please call us to arrange for an repair estimate. You can either bring the car into the bodyshop or, in the case where it may not be driveable, have one of us visit you to see the car in-situ and assess the damage.
